1951:
-Local identity Mrs Leona Kyling began collecting signatures for a petition for a Redlands district hospital. Within 3 months, 1211 signatures had been collected which was more than 20% of the Shire's population.
1980:
-Hospital proposed for the Redlands
1984:
-Locals push for a hospital and an appeal gets underway
-Redland Hospital Promotion Assocation is established
1985:
-Cabinet meets to discuss hospital
-Redland Hospital Auxillary Inc established
1987 June 30 - Opening of Redland Hospital
-July 1st - 1st patient in at 7:15am
-1st person admitted as an inpatient was a 10 month old baby
-1st general anaesthetic administered was to a 5 year old child with a fractured tibia and fibula
-1st day of opening saw 36 people present to the hospital with 4 admissions
-27th July saw 108 people present to the hospital
In 1951, Mrs Lenona Kyling wrote and published a booklet to raise funds for a local hospital in the Redlands. She also collected 1,211 signatures, which was more than 20% of the Shire's population. Despite her efforts in petitioning the government to build a hospital nothing eventuated.
