QEII Jubilee Hospital History: 2023-

Opening 1980

What we've delivered so far

2023

28 bed Ward 4A opens

In November 2023, we opened our new $25 million specialist medical ward that helped us quickly increase our capacity and provide more patient beds as part of the Queensland Government’s Accelerated Infrastructure Delivery Program (AIDP). The project has delivered a new 28 bed Ward 4A to manage emergency admissions for general medical patients. It ensures QEII has extra capacity to manage the growing demand for general medical services in the Metro South region.

The first patient admitted to QEII Hospital’s new beds in Ward 4A was 93-year-old, Dawn Campbell from Carindale on Monday 27 November 2023.

Allied Health Building

A new Allied Health and Ambulatory Care Services building opened on Monday 22 July 2024.

The lightweight construction building [Building 3]and refurbishment of the adjacent demountable [Building 4] accommodates our Allied Health and Ambulatory Care outpatients across QEII Hospital. It includes a new gym, therapy spaces, consult and interview rooms, and office spaces for staff next door.

What we/re building

What we’re building

New clinical services building

In October 2024, works commenced on the new five level clinical services building.

The new building will increase surgical capacity and expansion of key support services to QEII including:

  • 112 additional beds
  • expanded surgery and intensive care units
  • expanded support services, such as pharmacy, pathology and new on-demand kitchen
  • new central sterile supply department
  • renovations to our existing hospital buildings.

The upgrades will modernise our hospital and provide more health care services to our growing community.

Multi-level car park

In November 2024, works commenced on the eight level multi-level car park which will boost parking capacity ahead of the new clinical services building. The project will deliver 1,379 car parks, reducing the stress of searching for a car park for patients, visitors and staff.

Accessibility and safety are key priorities for the car park which will feature safe walking routes, lighting, CCTV and duress points connected to hospital security.

It will also include end-of-trip facilities and bicycle parking to support active transport options.

Yagara blessing

A traditional Yagara blessing for the construction of the QEII Hospital Capacity Expansion Program was held on 5 August 2024, as the hospital and the community forge ahead to grow a healthier community together
